Legal Status

The Good Practice Group is registered as a not-for-profit company [limited by guarantee] under Sri Lankan law. The company’s registration number is GA 2380.

The Articles of Association of The Good Practice Group specify its objectives as follows:

To work for the provision of good quality, equitable, accessible and sustainable mental health and psychosocial support services and the alleviation and amelioration of human suffering, through the following activities:

  • Direct provision of mental health and psychosocial support
  • Promotion of mental health and psychosocial well-being
  • Support to existing mental health and psychosocial support services and other relevant institutions, or support to establish new services
  • Training, professional development, supervision and personal support for mental health and psychosocial service providers and other relevant personnel
  • Production, translation and distribution of educational and training materials relevant to mental health and psychosocial support
  • Research, documentation, knowledge production and information exchange relevant to mental health and psychosocial well-being
  • Contribution to public policy and debate relevant to mental health and psychosocial well-being
  • Innovation, adaptation and testing of interventions/approaches for mental health and psychosocial support
  • Support to service users groups and persons with poor mental health or psychosocial well-being on an individual and collective basis
  • Providing consultancy services on mental health and psychosocial support or related fields
  • Raising income to support activities to improve mental health and psychosocial support services
  • Encouraging voluntary, civic and public contributions to the promotion of mental health and psychosocial well-being and in provision of services
  • Collaboration and engagement with other institutions, groups and individuals to address issues relevant to mental health and psychosocial well-being
  • Establishing related or independent legal entities overseas to further the above objectives in relation to improving mental health and psychosocial well-being in other countries, regionally or internationally.
  • Provide grants and assistance to other institutions, groups and individuals to further the above objectives in relation to mental health and psychosocial well-being.
